Thursday Gentle Yoga & Meditation Class

Hosted at Brookfield

New in 2020:  A gentle yoga class with monthly meditation session

Please note, our gentle yoga & meditation class has moved online, every Thursday 6-7pm. Please get in touch with Sue at to organise an invitation to our group.

A small group yoga and meditation class is the perfect way to nurture yourself physically and mentally. The class is informal and tailored to the needs of the participants each week. The small class size allows for individual tuition and feedback from Dr Sue Jackson.

Each month, we will cycle through three weeks of gentle yoga, with the fourth week focusing on meditation practices.

The first three weeks of each month will have an emphasis on gentle stretching, breathing, and restorative yoga postures.

The fourth week will cover a range of mindfulness-meditation and relaxation practices.

The classes help participants find stillness, and foster awareness. Through physical postures, breathing, and meditation/relaxation exercises, the body and mind can find a place of stillness. Through stillness, we can gain awareness – awareness of our body, mind, and spirit. Awareness of what it is we want and where it is we are going.

In our sessions, we will move into stillness through yoga practice that is focused on fostering present-moment awareness. Yoga is a path to optimal experience. According to Csikszentmihalyi (Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, 1990), yoga relates in several ways to the optimal psychological state of flow, and provides a useful model for anyone wanting to be in better control of their psychological energy. Csikszentmihalyi wrote in Flow (1990, p. 106) that yoga can be regarded as “one of the oldest and most systematic methods of producing the flow experience.” Find out more about the flow experience.

Yoga is for all – all ages, sizes, shapes, and levels of fitness – from elite athlete to reluctant exerciser. Sue combines a scientific background in psychology and sport science (MSc & PhD), with yoga and meditation teacher training, and ongoing professional development, to provide classes that are safe, focused, and enjoyable.

The class is run at Sue’s studio in Brookfield on a Thursday each month at 6pm for an hour. Please book using the sign-up form below and you will receive all the details for the class and confirmation of a place.

The group costs $25/per session, with one free class included in a one-month pass.

Pay $75 at the start of a month, and receive your 4th class for free!

You are also welcome to just attend the meditations, which will be held on the 4th Thursday of the month.

Sue is an excellent facilitator and I’ve found these sessions so beneficial. My concentration and focus have improved, and in turn productivity both at work and at home. Classes have also been great for teaching us to be in the moment and manage stress better.
